Never Pay Full Price
In these times, businesses are having a hard time making consumers spend. Businesses are rolling out more sales, coupons and incentives.
Before you make a purchase, especially a big one, check to see if there are any deals, coupons or something out there to save you money.
I will never pay full price for a lot of things, especially if I’ve seen coupons regularly from specific stores. (Kohl’s, Staples, Office Depot, Sports Authority, etc. ) For example, at Kohl’s, I will go to the clearance rack, find good valued items and then have a coupon. I like to save money!
School Budget Cuts…maybe they aren’t too bad?
We received an automated call from our son’s middle school last night. They have posted the school’s newsletter onto their website. If they didn’t have an email address for you, they would send your child a hard copy of that newsletter.
Budget cuts.
Saving paper. Saving money. Saving trees.
I thought it was such a great idea. Why didn’t we think of that earlier? I don’t know how many times I’ve received flyers from school or other places and barely read them and it went directly into the trash. Every now and then, I do think to put it in our recycled paper collection so that we can write on the back. It doesn’t always happen.
Recycling.
It does take some time and extra effort. We need to take the extra time. If all of us did our part, maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation. Ugh!
Too many plastic water bottles
It’s the end of August and it’s getting HOT. Over 100degrees. Ouch! I feel myself dehydrated, drinking more water. I thought I was doing well by reusing my plastic Kirkland water bottle, refilling it with filtered tap water or refilling it with the water from the Sparklett’s cooler. I would use the plastic bottle for a couple days then grab another. I heard something about bacteria in the plastic after awhile.
We went to the beach a couple days ago and my friend was packing the family’s lunch. She packed 4 of those stainless steel water bottles. I commented how cool it was. She said, “I’m getting away from using too many of the plastic water bottles.” That hit a chord with me. Because I need to be doing that too!
I thought I was doing my part: reusing my plastic bottles, reusing my plastic bags, refilling my Sparklett’s 5 gallon bottle, taking recycleables to the center, bringing my canvas bags to the grocery store, etc.
Just one more thing, I need to invest in those water containers to reuse. They do cost a bit but to think how much plastic we won’t use. Now that’s worth it!
Delish.com
MSN has a site called Delish that gives you access to printable grocery coupons.
It also is a great resource for making cheap meals. Check it out and see if there is anything you can use.
Can I survive without a credit card?
I remember thinking that there was no way I could live without a credit card.
Now that the economy is the way it is, now that I have charged up my credit cards to its maximum and now that I cannot afford to pay even the minimum payments on these credit cards, I KNOW that I can survive without one.
My credit score is lousy right now. My credit card accounts are delinquent. I have no credit cards anymore. I have no credit. I probably can not get any credit. It’s ok. My life is not over. I do have a checking account. I do have money in the bank (on most days). I have a debit card. Again, I’m ok.
I have learned to buy everything with cash (or debit card, same thing). If I don’t have money in my checking account, simply put, I cannot purchase a thing. I have learned to plan better. I have learned to buy only what I *need* today. If it can wait until next payday, it does. I am very mindful of each item I put in my grocery basket.
All is good. I do without, yes I can! You can too!
Kiva.org
Sometimes it helps to get out of our own world and walk the shoes of someone else, especially someone who may be less fortunate, especially someone living in a third world country.
A lot of our company went to a leadership conference last week. One of the speakers was this young lady jessica Jackley who had a great vision, and did something about it.
Kiva
Check out their website. This is the outcome of her walking in someone else’s shoes, wanting to make a difference. This company lets you loan to an entrepreneur “empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty”. This company changes lives….of the entrepreneur and the lender, the lender being me or even YOU.
